This February 12 brings Palm Springs’ 21st annual Modernism Week, the city’s much-anticipated celebration of mid-century modern design, architecture, art, fashion, and culture. The 11-day festival features an eclectic lineup of events, experiences, and tours, hosted throughout Southern California’s modernist design mecca. The popular event celebrates a reverence and appreciation for architecture, while encouraging education, preservation, and sustainable modern living.

Inspired by the stunning properties on display at this year’s festival, we’re taking a closer look at some incredible homes in and around Palm Springs, all represented by The Agency.

1323 S Driftwood Drive

Contemporary single-family home in Rancho Mirage with mountain views, palm trees, and pool.

A storied legacy precedes the iconic William Holden Estate, once home to the Academy Award-winning actor as well as other Hollywood notables such as Stefanie Powers, Audrey Hepburn, and Tippi Hedren. Designated a Class 1 Historic Site by the city of Palm Springs in March of 2018, this home, in the prestigious Deepwell Estates neighborhood, is characterized by clean lines and modern comfort and maintains much of its 1950s charm. This mid-century modern landmark, designed and built by prominent master builder Joseph Pawling, embodies effortless Palm Springs style and timeless allure. The home, represented by Aaron Leider, is featured in a now sold-out tour during Modernism Week, so here’s your chance to peek inside.

57425 Palm Seco Circle

Mid-century modern Villa Palm Seco desert retreat with mountain views in Palm Desert, California.

Situated amongst the hills of the Coachella Valley is Villa Palm Seco, a nearly 11,000-square-foot retreat that blends flawlessly into its scenic surroundings. Inside the chic, white-washed space represented by Michelle Schwartz, worldly details set this home apart. Recessed alcoves and arched wall niches echo Mediterranean influence, while textured flooring and inlaid rock patterns bring in a bit of Southwestern spirit. Modern, organic minimalism is the through-line here, letting the landscape do the talking. Set within the ultra-private Royal Carrizo enclave, Villa Palm Seco is designed for inspired living and deep restoration.

70630 Boothill Road

Contemporary single-family home in Rancho Mirage with mountain views, palm trees, and pool.

Bathing in the light of the Southern California sun, 70630 Boothill Road, also known as “Solis,” blends classic mid-century design with one of the desert’s other popular pastimes: tennis. Located within the exclusive Thunderbird Heights neighborhood of Rancho Mirage, the 3,990-square-foot sanctuary exudes elevated comfort and timeless style. In the tranquil backyard, an expansive patio and outdoor kitchen lead directly to the sparkling pool, which provides courtside seating overlooking the full-size tennis court, the piece de resistance. Represented by Charles Borromeo, Solis is a modern sanctuary set at the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains, just 20 minutes from downtown Palm Springs.
