Autumn has arrived in New York, and The Agency’s Evan Roth loves the seasonal events and outdoor activities that make this time of year so special. With his busy real estate career (and a remarkable background in national gymnastics), Evan is no stranger to the importance of balance—whether it’s in work, life, or making the most of fall in NYC with his family.

What are your top 3 favorite family-friendly fall events in NYC, and what makes them special to you?

  1. New York Botanical Garden’s “Fall-O-Ween”

The NYBG transforms into an autumn wonderland with themed displays of gourds, scarecrows, and a pumpkin carving weekend. What makes this event special is its focus on nature and learning, creating a sensory experience with fall colors, textures and creative pumpkin displays. My kids love exploring the gardens, while the adults can appreciate the beauty of the changing leaves.

2. Central Park’s Halloween Pumpkin Flotilla

Watching glowing jack-o’-lanterns float across the Harlem Meer at twilight is truly magical. This event has a strong community feel, with families coming together to launch their own carved pumpkins. The camaraderie and reflections on the water create a warm, memorable evening. It’s a tradition that my family looks forward to every year.

3. The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze

This event features over 7,000 hand-carved pumpkins, arranged in intricate designs. The level of creativity is astonishing, and it’s a serene, illuminated stroll through the crisp autumn air. We chose the Long Island location, where more family members can join us. It’s both festive and peaceful, giving us a break from the city’s hustle while we enjoy some quality time together.

Are there any local parks or outdoor spaces you recommend for enjoying fall activities with kids?

It’s hard to compete with Central Park in the fall. The park transforms into a colorful paradise, perfect for a family picnic or a visit to the zoo. The Great Lawn, Sheep Meadow, and the North Woods are particularly beautiful at this time of year, and we often spend hours enjoying the fall foliage together.

What seasonal festivals or markets do you think families should not miss in (or around) the city during the fall?

Definitely Union Square Greenmarket’s Fall Harvest Days. We visit the farmer’s market year-round, but in the fall, it becomes a harvest celebration with seasonal produce, baked goods, apple cider, and pumpkin carving. My son loves talking with local farmers (and asking lots of questions!) and we always pick out ingredients for a seasonal meal. The cooking demonstrations are a fun bonus for the whole family.

Do you have any favorite fall traditions or activities you enjoy with your family in the city?

A lot of our fall traditions revolve around the events I mentioned—Central Park, the floating jack-o’-lanterns and fall festivals. But we also enjoy date nights at Lincoln Center for the NYC Ballet. There’s something special about walking through the brisk fall air to see a performance, with the glow of Lincoln Center making it even more magical.
