Hunters founder-turned MP Kevin Hollinrake has been appointed as shadow levelling up, housing and communities secretary by new Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch.

Hollinrake, who started Hunters Estate Agents in 1992, co-founding the business with John Waterhouse, was made a minister in October 2022 under Rishi Sunak’s regime, but he has never served in the cabinet.

In July of this year he was appointed shadow secretary of state for business and trade.

Hollinrake, who campaigned for justice for the victims of the Post Office scandal, was tipped as a Tory Party leadership candidature after the general election, but he failed to gain the necessary support to enter the battle to replace Sunak as leader of the party.

The Thirsk and Malton MP, Hollinrake, backed Badenoch as leader of the Conservative Party.
