Commercial real estate investment firm Milan Capital Management (MCM), with institutional middle-market real estate investment manager Arc Capital Partners (Arc), recently announced the signing of a new tenant at The Plant Shopping Center in south central San Jose, Calif.
The new tenant — value-focused retailer dd’s DISCOUNTS — signed a lease for the 18,045-square-foot retail space that is prominently located at the intersection of Curtner Avenue and Monterey Road. Filling a space that had long been vacant at the property, dd’s DISCOUNTS will enhance the shopping center’s retail offerings with an extensive selection of stylish clothing; home goods; bed and bath essentials; kitchenware and more.
Marking a significant milestone in the revitalization of The Plant since MCM and Arc acquired the San Jose retail property in 2024, the new store is scheduled to open its doors in the summer of 2025.
Strategically positioned between Target and Vallarta Supermarkets (which has a planned opening in 2026), the center’s newest addition to the tenant roster is poised to attract significant foot traffic and reinforce The Plant as a key retail destination for the wider San Jose community.
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome dd’s DISCOUNTS to The Plant,” said Chris Nichelson, president of Milan Capital Management. “With its reputation for offering incredible savings every day on a wide assortment of apparel and home fashions, dd’s DISCOUNTS is sure to become a favorite destination for our community. This addition further strengthens our vision of transforming The Plant into a vibrant, high-traffic retail destination.”
The single-story property was initially completed in 2008 and incorporates more than 360,000 square feet of San Jose retail space. MCM and Arc purchased the shopping center for $95 million in August 2024 in an arm’s length deal. At the time, the property was reportedly nearly 65% occupied with tenants including Best Buy, Ross Dress for Less, PetSmart, Ulta Beauty, Off Broadway, Starbucks, IHOP, Chase Bank and Five Guys. Since acquiring the property, the owner partnership has been hard at work revitalizing The Plant Shopping Center.
Carol Therien of Retail Pacific represented dd’s DISCOUNTS, while Will Bryson of Atlantic Retail worked on behalf of the landlord in this retail lease negotiation.
