Autumn in Brooklyn is the perfect place to experience the best of the season. The Agency New York’s Melissa Bemis shares her favorite fall activities, from prost-ing at Oktoberfests and taking in the changing leaves in Prospect Park to touring an iconicly decorated Halloween house. Whether you crave apple cider donuts or the best spots to enjoy the essence of fall (which might just be over a bowl of home-cooked chili), let Melissa be your local guide.

What do you love about Brooklyn in the fall? What makes it stand out from other boroughs?

I would say the Oktoberfests, how the leaves change in Prospect Park and the amazing Halloween decorations.

What are some of your favorite spots in Brooklyn to visit during the fall, and why?

My favorite is in my neighborhood, the Halloween House in Prospect Park South. It’s a huge old Victorian that is loaded up with decorations from webs to animatronic spooky characters. It attracts quite a crowd. I love getting apple cider donuts and apple cider from our local farmers market on Cortelyou Road on Sundays. To me, that is the taste of fall!

Do you have any go-to parks during this season? If so, what do you love about them?

Always Prospect Park. The leaves are changing right now but it’s magic on any given day no matter what the weather. This morning I saw some gorgeous red leaves and a great blue heron.

Do you have any go-to restaurants or bars in the Brooklyn and Prospect Park areas that you pop into during the fall?

When fall comes I like to have German food. Werkstatt in my neighborhood comes to mind. And I like to make a big crock pot of chili at my house! I also love Ramen Danbo in Park Slope, it’s amazing. That hot noodle soup really gets you into that fall feeling.
